The Role:

The Senior Systems Engineer is a member of CPI’s Infrastructure Engineering team and is responsible for designing, building, and stabilizing our systems by ensuring systems are reliable, available, secure, and maintainable for CPI’s on-premises and cloud infrastructure. This role is part of a small, multi-disciplined, cross-functional team that supports the full spectrum of technology services, providing Azure cloud and infrastructure direction in technical standards, planning, and strategy to other technical teams and leadership.

What You Get To Do Everyday:

  • Understand business requirements to design, set up, and deploy key infrastructure components, including cloud computing and automation, compute, storage, web applications, and related critical services for a balance of scalability, availability, security, and performance.
  • Monitor, manage, and propose recommendations for improving CPI’s infrastructure and cloud systems; reduce complexity and noise via automation recommendations, as appropriate.
  • Ensure hardware, operating systems, application software, and related systems adhere to organizational compliance and operational requirements. Understand trade-offs, identify gaps, and provide recommendations for improving system health.
  • Participate in the architecture, planning, and support of the various cloud and infrastructure environments, with an emphasis on the security level of the platforms.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and execute changes to correct issues and enhance production and non-production systems while evaluating and understanding the impact on the business systems and communicating accordingly. 
  • Document commonly encountered issues on newly implemented systems and raise awareness across support teams to drive efficiency. Investigate options to reduce repetitive tickets through automation or system enhancement configurations.
  • Identify, document, and recommend security safeguards and configurations across cloud & infrastructure systems.
  • Manage system capacity, reusability, maintainability, and security life cycle of cloud-hosted systems.
  • Collaborate effectively with other Technology Services teams (Software Engineering and DevOps) and outsourcing providers to ensure that technology security solutions align with organizational strategic goals.
  • Be a champion for the health of CPI’s systems and take ownership when planning and designing.
  • Perform other position-related duties as assigned.

You Need to Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, data science, or related field
  • Five years or more experience as a Systems Engineer, Cloud Infrastructure with the ability to perform basic scripting or experience as a DevOps Engineer
  • Three years or more experience managing or supporting an extensive enterprise infrastructure with business-critical applications hosted in a cloud environment
  • Three years or more of experience in at least one of the following information systems and cloud domains: Azure or AWS, Azure Application Service Environment (ASE), VDI, Active Directory & Azure Active Directory, Office 365, virtualization, Microsoft SQL Server & Azure SQL Server, Azure web applications, disaster recovery solutions, high availability systems, load balancing solutions, Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (formerly SCCM), network storage technologies, or Bare Metal Server infrastructure, End-User Computing
  • Experience analyzing and troubleshooting issues by leveraging various industry-standard monitoring and reporting tools
  • Experience architecting and deploying systems and cloud monitoring solutions
  • Experience building and maintaining a hybrid on-premises and cloud infrastructure
  • Experience with Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)
  • Experience with vulnerability management and risk assessment for on-premises and cloud infrastructure
  • Experience with automation and scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Terraform
  • Knowledge of Azure, Azure Application Service Environment, and Azure web apps
  • Knowledge of managing a virtual machine infrastructure, including VMware and Azure
  • Knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards, including DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, and Active Directory
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows systems installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of Information Security standards and policies such as ISO 27001/27002, NIST, and others
  • Knowledge of WAN, LAN, WLAN, VPN, SSLVPN, and VoIP administration
  • MCP/MCSA, CCNA, Security+, and VCP certifications
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware, networking, and software-related issues 
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-function team
  • Adaptability to learn and stretch across changing and new technology disciplines
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail
